Claudia Jürgen commented on DS-1230:
------------------------------------
This would be useful and could be part of a little overhaul of user
management/curation.
Just some thoughts:
1. User Status
Maybe we need an inactive status similar to the item withdrawn, in order to
'emerit' epersons which are linked to other DSpace objects in form of item
submitter, reviewer etc. (item table submitter_id, provenance description name
and email). There should be the possibility to reinstantiate the eperson to the
active status.
2. User self management
At the moment the user got no possibility to delete it's own account. Sometimes
users register because they think they can gain access to otherwise restricted
material or just to try it out, or they need the service for a while (e.g.
subscriptions) and then they cease needing. In any case they need to contact
the administrator in order to delete the account.
3. Definition of "active"
The fact that one does not log in (which is atm not stored see DS-1085) might
not be equal to inactivity as one can set up subscriptions an furthermore has
no need to log in later on.
4. User curation
It would be great to be able to set up eperson curation tasks, like identifying
possible "dead" accounts, verify eperson data and hence manage these. Or
contact all/a set of collection administrators in order to check whether one
still got the right contact in the department ...

> It would be useful to have a tool for finding EPersons which have not logged
> on for some time. Uses range from general tidiness to upgrading password
> hashes (https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-861).
