Hi Jonathan and Hardy

Our (Hedtek's) version is basically a fast read-side only version of
Bojan's summer of code RESTful API.

We were luck enough to have a senior member of the ASF working for us for a
while, and he did wonders with test-first refactoring Bojan's code and
hooking it up (as I recall via hibernate) to the DSpace database (hibernate
allowing in the future for the use of different databases employed by
dspace, by changing a one line config for hibernate.).

What did we do for the upload/write side? Hooked in SWORD. Managed to get
50 mixed (small to very very large) uploads going simultaneously before
SWORD or DSpace fell over. Quite impressive.

There's a youtube vid of a system employing our api
code<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoLm8-gfwHQ&feature=plcp>,
and an extensive performance at load report
<http://devblog.hedtek.com/.../performance-at-load-of-rails-front-end>on
our dev blog.

The code was never deployed in production, which I think indicates
organisational failures and lack of technical ability in the client
organisation.

regards
mark
