Till today there is now possibility to check if a item is already imported into
DSpace.
This applies to the metadata-import, packager and the import.
I think it maybe easily to implement a parameter like
--skip-existing=dc.identifier.uuid for the metdata-import
We talked about this function on the mailing list and we decided to place a
feature request
