Of course, the approach I suggested in the issue is just that - a suggestion. In my scenario, we would be comparing an item with metadata and bitstreams, which would be easy because it would at that time already have a precomputed hash, so it would be just a matter of looking up this hash in the bitstream table. And that would be only one of the possible methods for detecting duplicities. OTOH, your solution has the advantage that it works now, so please, feel free to attach it to the Jira issue so that interested users can take advantage of it. Thanks.
