If you try to access a browse index that not exist you get the content of the default index.
If you try to access a second level (value or authority are supplied) of an inexistent browse index you get a "No Entries in Index" page,
In XMLUI the problem still exist.
IMHO the current implementation of JSPUI is enough right. I will be more comfortable only with an implementation that return not found (404) for invalid browse index or parameters combination. A simple request without any parameter (ie /browse) can be managed with defaults.
