Whenever the kernel starts up, there is a brief pause while ehcache phones home to see if there is a new version. I would argue that this is nearly always wasted motion -- nobody is looking through the logs for messages that ehcache could be upgraded. Adding "upgradeCheck='false'" to the ehcache configuration should suppress this call-out.
