When an item's files are rendered in XMLUI, there is some logic in ItemAdapter that finds the filename of the original counterpart of a derived bitstream. This is done by stripping off the last 4 characters of the derived bitstream, with the assumption being that these 4 characters are a dot followed by a 3-character extension. However, file extensions aren't necessarily 3 characters long, especially on non-Windows platforms.
