There is no fix for that in 4.0
I will mark the issue as won't fix, feel free to reopen if you feel that more discussion is need.
Please note that starting from DSpace 4 we have discovery by default and filtering by date should mean use facet or the autocomplete facility
Just for the record, there is no plan to dismiss the JSPUI. Instead, with DSpace 4, a big refresh of this interface as been done and we expect a large adoption.
