This would be useful for me also. I have a hacked implementation of a language facet as described above but it really isn't pretty.
I'd also like to be able to facet by access -- eg is/is not readable for anonymous group.

I already started asking about this in DS-971 comments, but since that's now resolved, I'm filing it as a new ticket.
I would like to have some new Discovery facet types. These are only suggestions, so the implementation may be different, but I tried to include the goals which I wanted to achieve.
1) fulltext - items have/have not a bitstream attach...
