Using the OAI Client, I tried to harvest both metadata and bitstreams from another DSpace. The repository I was harvesting returned HTTP 302's, indicating that the content has moved. Instead of following the redirect, OAIClient just dumped the returned apache page into a bitstream. <code> <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN"> <html><head> <title>302 Found</title> </head><body> <h1>Found</h1> <p>The document has moved <a href="" href="https://smartech.gatech.edu/bitstream/handle/1853/28538/GT%20Open%20R%20INSIDE%20Final.pdf.txt?sequence=6" style="color: #3b73af; text-decoration: none">https://smartech.gatech.edu/bitstream/handle/1853/28538/GT%20Open%20R%20INSIDE%20Final.pdf.txt?sequence=6">here</a>.</p> </body></html> </code> I think this is happening here: https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/master/dspace-api/src/main/java/org/dspace/harvest/OAIHarvester.java#L489
