Google is gradually phasing out its old Analytics tracking code in favor of Universal Analytics. Information about the timeline: https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/upgrade/index#phases I think this affects DSpace users as follows: - people already using google analytics can continue using the old analytics and the old tracking code, this won't be discontinued until the next years. - The same people can already manually upgrade to Universal Analytics from the analytics control panel. Once they do this, they need to update the tracking code in DSpace as well. - Universal analytics is the default for new google analytics accounts/properties. This means that people starting with GA today and DSpace, already need to customize the theme to ensure that they are using the latest tracking code. Proposed approach: we should at least get information in the DSpace docs about the procedure to manually update the GA tracking script. Later on, we should possibly support both tracking scripts with 2 config parameters.
