Currently in order to enable the XPDF Filter feature, you need to manually add several settings to your dspace.cfg:
xpdf.path.pdftotext = /usr/local/bin/pdftotext
xpdf.path.pdftoppm = /usr/local/bin/pdftoppm
xpdf.path.pdfinfo = /usr/local/bin/pdfinfo
You also have to manually add necessary FormatFilter settings, etc (as detailed in the docs linked below)
These settings should be available in dspace.cfg (and commented out when necessary), rather than requiring users to manually insert them.
The documentation around these settings is also unclear. Some settings relate to using XPDF for thumbnail generation and others relate to using XPDF for text extraction. We probably should enhance these docs to detail which settings are required based on which feature you wish to enable.
