There are no hard limitations that you should worry about. However, the performance (search performace, most importantly will decrease with number of items, of course. There are repositories in the order of millions of items working just fine. If you hit scalability problems, there are ways to improve performace, primarily by separating the individual components (Solr, Postgres, Tomcat and possibly others) to multiple servers. If that is not enough, you can scale Solr horizontally (same with Postgres, though that shouldn't become a problem).
