+1 to the idea.
This just needs volunteer(s) to make it happen. The hardest part is probably tracking down all the places this needs to be configured.
We also need to ensure that all crosswalks (e.g. for OAI-PMH, google scholar metadata) are treating "dc.contributor.author" and "dc.creator" equally. I believe most are..but should be double checked.
