Hi Alice, You can use it to move items between collections, but not collections between communities. The tool allows you to export the metadata for all or a subset of your items into a spreadsheet. The second column of the spreadsheet lists the owning collection of them item, followed by any collections that the item is mapped into.
If you want to mass move items, you can update that column of the spreadsheet, and when you re-import the metadata, DSpace should see that you've moved the items, confirm that back to you, and when click on the confirmation button it will make the changes. The DSpace 1.6 press release I read stated that the new version includes: "a batch metadata editing tool which can be used to change, add, find/replace metadata as well as facilitate mass moves, re-order values or add new items in bulk." May I ask about the "mass moves" feature? Does this mean you can move items, and maybe even collections, around within the repository?
