Vanessa, The Request Copy feature as it stands is not suitable for DSpace above versions 1.4 and 1.4 is way out of date.
Additionally, from what I understand and have gathered over the year, the folks at Minho University are no longer supporting or developing this. I don't know if this is due to a lack of interest on their part or the inability to maintain their code (I suspect the latter.) We at the Smithsonian Libraries are dependent on this extension, so we took the initiative to upgrade it to be suitable for DSpace 1.5-1.6 (we haven't tested on 1.7 yet). However, there's one big caveat: it only works with the JSPUI, not the XMLUI. This is something we'd like to correct, but we currently do not have the Java experience in-house to accomplish this. We recognize that the XMLUI is the place to be and do hope to move there in the future. Additionally, if we were to continue development on this, we would also correct the limitation cause by the fact that it emails the requested resource to the recipient when access is granted. This fails when the resource causes the email to be greater than the allowable size of the receiving mail server. In other words, this works for smallish, compress PDFs, but fails on larger audio file. Having said all that, I am happy to share our code with you and the public in general. I even think we've updated the installation instructions for the DSpace 1.5+ architecture. Here is an example of it in use. http://si-pddr.si.edu/dspace/handle/10088/11268 Thanks, --Joel Joel Richard IT Specialist, Web Services Department Smithsonian Institution Libraries | http://www.sil.si.edu/ (202) 633-1706 | (202) 786-2861 (f) | [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> On Dec 9, 2010, at 10:35 PM, Vanessa Barrett wrote: Hi all, We are thinking about implementing the Request a copy button (see https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/RequestCopy) Has anyone else done so and can you point me to examples? Any recommendations about how best to deploy this?
