Hi Lighton,

you cannot submit items directly to a community or a subcommunity. It
has to contain a collection. Only a collection can contain items.
That's unfortunately how it's been in DSpace from the beginning.

You may want to do some tricks with your theme to work around that,
e.g. by creating one top-level community that you won't display on the
home page, but display its content instead. Your current top-level
communities and the new collection would be its children.
