Hi Christophe, it's great that you solved the problem in your repository. Another common field which would benefit from this is ISSN et al - there's a lot of useful metadata that can be assigned to a journal, book etc and since they're not represented by a DSpaceObject, there's no way (nowhere) to add that metadata (even if all DSpaceObjects could hold metadata).
Authorities are an interesting solution for that (no need to add a DSpaceObject). I see that you have written a document on the subject - I haven't read it yet, so I don't know yet where you actually propose to store that data. Let me suggest that you add this as Jira issue (new feature). If at all possible, its better if you don't do a large code drop but split up the changes into logical wholes - that would make them easier to review.
