Hi Ricardo,

if you suspect you have a problem with encoding in your instance, you
can compare it to how our demo instance works:

Here I typed "testi" to get titles starting with "testi" first:

http://demo.dspace.org/jspui/browse?type=title&sort_by=1&order=ASC&rpp=20&etal=-1&starts_with=testi

You didn't state your DSpace version and interface, but demo runs
DSpace 3.1, JSPUI with Discovery enabled.

I'm afraid we don't have that detailed user-level documentation. It's
supposed to be intuitive, if it isn't we should fix it.
