What format(s) would these documents be in?  I usually use evince or
Adobe Reader for PDFs; Libre Office for ODF, OOXML, and MS Office;
ImageMagick 'display' or gpicview for raster images; gv for
PostScript; inkscape seems to work well with SVG.  And so on.
