In our experience recent models generate significantly better files than older
files. I'm guessing that as the relative expense of the electronics to the rest
of the hardware falls, machines have better and better built-in processors.

By 'significantly better' I mean smaller files of the same quality and use of
more widely-understood file variants.

This applies to both TIFF and PDF formats.

Subject: [Dspace-general] scanner recommendations

Hi everyone,

Our Epson Expression 10000XL scanner is in need of replacement. I'm wondering
if any list members have a <$5K machine that they could recommend (or offer
warnings). We're looking for something with a large flatbed, document feeder,
slide trays . . . etc.

Thanks,

Dan
