Dear Community,

The DuraSpace organization is pleased to announce that Dr. Amy Brand has
accepted an appointment to the DuraSpace Board of Directors.

Amy Brand is the VP Academic and Research Relations and VP North America
for Digital Science <http://www.digital-science.com/>, a division of
Holtzbrinck that invests in and incubates academic start-ups that provide
research information software. She joined Digital Science in 2014 as VP
Academic and Research Relations and VP North America to manage the US
offices and develop commercial, policy, and research relationships with
North American research institutions.

>From 2008 to 2013, Brand worked at Harvard University, first at the Office
for Scholarly Communication where she was the founding Program Manager with
responsibility for launching Harvard’s open access repository. Success in
this role led to an appointment as Assistant Provost for Faculty
Appointments and Information, where she coordinated faculty hiring,
promotion, and tenure processes across the University, and developed an
internal social networking platform to help faculty discover qualified
collaborators in other departments. Before moving to Harvard, she held
long-term positions as an Executive Editor at the MIT Press and as Director
of Business and Product Development at CrossRef. Brand was a founding
member of the ORCID Board of Directors, and regularly serves in advisory
roles for key community initiatives in digital scholarship. She holds a
B.A. in linguistics from Barnard College and a PhD in cognitive science
from MIT.

Brand commented, "DuraSpace has been tremendously successful in creating a
sustainable model for open source solutions in the institutional repository
space. I’m delighted to be joining the DuraSpace board at a time when the
organization is expanding its model and its vision beyond preservation and
repositories into other domains. I see a real need for open source options
for a variety of institutional system requirements, and I would like to
help DuraSpace take the lead in these developments."
