Hi Jacob,

The problem may be Tomcat v8. There have been others reporting issues with running DSpace on Tomcat 8. This email thread describes some of the common issues (and fixes). Another option is to try running DSpace on Tomcat 7 instead. We are also working on fixing Tomcat 8 issues in a future release of DSpace (no exact timelines on that as of yet).

    Hi Jacob,

It might help us if you could describe your setup, and what you
see when the Java Process goes to such a high level.

    * What version of Java / Tomcat are you using?
    * When the Java process uses a lot of CPU does the DSpace homepage
still load? Does it stay high forever? Or does it go down after a
    while?

Also, please check your Tomcat logs too, as it's always possible
that errors are being logged there as well. Again, the
Troubleshoot an Error guide details where to check:

        Hi Jacob,

Unfortunately, the top command won't provide us with enough
information here. Could you check your DSpace logs for any
errors that may be occurring behind the scenes? Here's a
guide for locating errors in logs:
        https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Troubleshoot+an+error

Also, is the JSPUI actually loading successfully? Do you see
anything, or is it throwing an error? Please send any errors
you are seeing to this mailing list and we'll see if we can
        help you resolve them.

        Thanks,

        Hello,

I installed DSpace 5.3, but when trying to access
localhost:8080/jspui the Java Process goes far beyond 100%
        of the CPU.

attached the screen with the "Top" command.

        Thank you,

        Jacob
