Thank you for your report, this is the first time I've heard about such problem. I couldn't reproduce it on 5.4 on Debian, neither in XMLUI not in JSPUI.
Here's a problem in OpenJDK 8u25 that looks similar: https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8068400 It says that it's fixed in OpenJDK 8u60, so try upgrading and reproducing the steps that led to the crash.
