Hi John,

the issue is that the manually added thumbnails are not named according to the DSpace mediafilter convention.

If you rename the manually added thumbnails as original file + additional .jpg DSpace will stop to create automatic generated thumbnails.

Hope this clarify,

Andrea

Thanks very much for the responses.

Andrea, the automatically generated thumbnails are named original file + additional .jpg and the manually added thumbnails are in the THUMBNAIL bundle.

I’ve attached a screenshot of the “edit item” screen for one of these items.

Best,

John

Are the existent thumbnails bitstreams in the bundle named
    "THUMBNAIL"?

can you share a screen of an item that shows such behavior?

    Hi there,

We run DSpace 5.0 with the XMLUI interface and a custom theme
based on Mirage2. We use |org.dspace.app.mediafilter.JPEGFilter|
as a scheduled task to automatically generate thumbnails

Recently, we added a new collection which already contains
manually added thumbnails. We would like these existing
thumbnails to display for items in this collection rather than
automatically generated ones. However, when DSpace generates an
automatic thumbnail, it displays in place of the existing
thumbnail. The existing thumbnail does still remain a part of the
    item's thumbnail: bundle.

Is there any way to tell DSpace to prefer manually-added
thumbnails where they exist? Or would it be better to use the
    "skip mode"

<https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC5x/Mediafilters+for+Transforming+DSpace+Content#MediafiltersforTransformingDSpaceContent-Enabling/DisablingMediaFilters>of
the media filter to tell DSpace not to generate any new
    thumbnails for this particular collection?

Thanks very much for any suggestions,
    John
