Hi, Just thought I'd send a heads up to anyone who develops DSpace on Mac OS X. As of the recently released macOS Sierra (10.12) Apple did something that causes Java to perform localhost resolutions extremely slowly. This results in DSpace running, but taking like five minutes to load each page.
I spent a few days wondering if my dev environment was messed up, re-installing Java, checking my filesystem, etc, only to find this blog post explaining how to fix it: https://thoeni.io/post/macos-sierra-java/ It involves adding your machine's hostname to /etc/hosts. Now my DSpace is fast again. Hope that helps someone!
