Sorry for the late response.
I've made another branch to confirm that it still works in dspace 6.
In this branch I've imported the variables.scss from the bootstwatch
theme rather than the precompiled css.
Please make sure to place the scss files in the correct directories and
check the differences carefully.

And we actived the profile bootstrap_color_scheme in
dspace/modules/xmlui-mirage2/pom.xml
How can we get the theme worked?
