I also thought that it was possible to link a collection to multiple
communities.  Perhaps I read the same documentation.

Based on some recent discussion, I do not think that it is possible to have
a collection in multiple communities.

It is possible to link all of the items in a collection into multiple
collections.  The bulk metadata edit process allows you to do this in a
batch mode.
