Hello Scott,

you should be able to harvest metadata only from any Data Provider who supports
OAI-PMH.
For anything else the Data Provider has to support OAI-ORE.
With regards to ArchivesSpace there are other integration possibilities:
https://archivesspace.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ADC/pages/17137746/Integrations#Integrations-archivesspace-archivematica-dspace_workflow_integration

With harvester.acceptedHandleServer (default(hdl.handle.net)
"A harvest process will attempt to scan the metadata of the incoming items
(identifier.uri field, to be exact) to see if it looks like a handle. If so, it matches
the pattern against the values of this parameter. If there is a match the new item is
assigned the handle from the metadata value instead of minting a new one. Default value:
hdl.handle.net ."
So in your case a new handle will be minted.

You may just try it out in a test instance harvesting from
http://demo.dspace.org/oai

1.8 supports OAI Harvesting but has long reached its end of life, so you should
definitely upgrade.

Hope this helps

Hi folks

I've had a look at the OAI harvesting as client documentation, and it looks
perfectly viable to harvest another DSpace. I have a requirement to build a
system which harvests from different repositories (in this case
ArchivesSpace and AtoM), and I would like to take some identifier data (not
getting deep into the structure) from these systems in DC and push the
information into a DSpace collection. Would that be viable, or does it need
to be another DSpace collection? I wondered about the
"rejectedHandlePrefix"- these things will not have DSpace-style handles, so
will they fail at that hurdle?

Also, I know that I will either need a fresh DSpace or to upgrade a 1.8
version instance (to be fair, we need to do that anyway). I take I need to
get to version 5 for this functionality?

Cheers
Scott
