Hi George,

I like using the DSpace search for tasks like this.

To find all items that have a dc.title set use this search: *dc.title:* *(Example on demo.dspace.org: http://demo.dspace.org/xmlui/discover?scope=%2F&query=dc.title%3A*&submit=) You can also combine queries like this: *dc.title:* AND -dc.type:* *This will find all items which have a dc.title but no dc.type (Example: http://demo.dspace.org/xmlui/discover?scope=%2F&query=dc.title%3A*+AND+-dc.type%3A*&submit=)

Just remember that you are going to find only public items with the DSpace search. If you need to find private (like withdrawn) items as well using the database as Paul suggested is the only option.

Regards
Christian

Hi George,

here an addition. Some metadata fields are critical because alls DSpace-Objects have metadata, i.e. Communities and Collections, too. Especially fields like dc.title are also used for Communities and Collections metadata.

Best regards,
Paul

Hi George,

I don't know if there is a DSpace tool but every metadata to dspace-object relation is hold in database. So a SQL query is all you need. You only have to know the "metadata_field_id". This is stored in the "metadatafieldregistry" table. Either you looking in the Admin UI for metadata-registry or you use a SQL-Query like this: "SELECT metadata_field_id FROM metadatafieldregistry WHERE element='title' AND qualifier='alternative';" (= field_id 71). With this ID you can query the "metadatavalue" table, e.g. "SELECT COUNT(*) FROM metadatavalue WHERE metadata_field_id = 71;"

Best regards,
Paul

Hi...
We are using DSpace 5.5 (going to 6.2).  A Metadata Librarian at my site asked if I could find out how many times a certain DC metadata field was being used in DSpace instance.  Has anyone ever queried the system for that particular information, and if so, could you share with me how to do that :-) ?
Thanks!
