Thank you, Tim: It actually turned out to be my fault. I wrote a script a few weeks ago to eliminate idle postgres processes. I turned out that this script was causing my problem with both the OAI indexing and the other database related issues. This script turned out to be more aggressive than I had intended and was interfering with the normal process of the database.
