^^^^^^^^^^^ DSpace < 7 does AFAIK not build on Java 11 - you need Java 8 for that.It might run on Java 11 e.g. in Tomcat (at least 5.x runs on 11, tested that) .
openjdk8 is supported until May 2026 - no need to hurry.
