Hi Nicolas, Is there anything else on your system that could be moving files from that assetstore directory? Maybe an overzealous virus scanner has put some files in quarantine or something? Or did you recently migrate this assetstore directory from another location and perhaps miss copying over some files?
DSpace doesn't remove files from the assetstore directory unless you delete the files via the UI (or similar). DSpace also doesn't have any way to restore those assetstore files once they are deleted, unless you've been backing them up, either via a simple filesystem backup or via DSpace's AIP Backup & Restore feature: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/AIP+Backup+and+Restore I'm not sure how these files could have been deleted. But, you may want to look at whether the server was backed up recently...as you should be able to simply copy the files from a backup into the same "assetstore" directory/filename to get it all working again. If you find any other hints as to what might have happened, feel free to share them on this list if you feel they'd be useful to others.
