Hi Raunak,

OAIS is a high-level reference model, which means that most repository-like
systems could be considered "compliant" at some level. While OAIS does a great
job of describing what repository-like systems should off, most of the
technical details are left to the systems themselves.

DSpace does align with the OAIS model, in that it supports various
(configurable) data management workflows (see our Submission & workflow
approval process docs). DSpace also has defined Ingest (Submission) / Access
(User Interface) / Administration (UI & some commandline tools) processes.
DSpace also supports various OAIS style package types... various SIPs
(Submission Information Packages) are defined in
https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/Ingesting+Content+and+Metadata , we
also support AIPs (Archival Information Packages) as defined in
https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/AIP+Backup+and+Restore

So, to answer your question, I would consider DSpace "compliant" with OAIS at a
high level as it has "data flows" like those defined in OAIS. However, DSpace
often uses different terminology than OAIS uses, so if there's a specific data
management activity you need more information about, feel free to ask on this
list and we can help point you in the right direction.

Subject: [dspace-tech] Compliance/ Support with OAIS (Open Archival Information
System)

Pretty much the title.

I could not find any strong evidence for DSpace's support for OAIS.

Wanted to know if DSpace is compliant with the OAIS model ?

Thanks and Regards
Raunak
