Hi Antonio,

Yes, you can migrate your DSpace to a separate server without upgrading if you
wish. The steps would be the same as detailed at
https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/Migrating+DSpace+to+a+new+server The
only difference would be that you'd just install the same version of DSpace on
the new server.

You can also migrate & upgrade at the same time by following those same
instructions (just install the new version of DSpace on the new server
first... then migrate your existing data into the new version of DSpace as
described in those instructions).

Either way, I recommend testing the migration process first, as it'll help you
learn more about the process. It also gives you the opportunity to ask more
specific questions on this list if you run into things that are confusing.

Tim

Subject: [dspace-tech] Re: Migrating DSpace 4.x to 7.3 REST

Hello Tim,

thank you very much for answering, unfortunately I understand little of what I
am doing so it is difficult for me to ask my questions well, my main question
is, is there a need to do an update/upgrade before migrating the data to the
new server? or Can I dump the data and migrate it without further ado? wouldn't
there be no complications?

thanks again for any response.
Antonio

Hi Antonio,

I'm not exactly sure if this answers your question, but it's possible to
upgrade (or migrate) from any older version of DSpace to any newer version.

We have a guide for both upgrades and migrations (to a new server) in our
Documentation at:
https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/Upgrading+DSpace
https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/Migrating+DSpace+to+a+new+server

If this is not what you are looking for, then we may need more details about
what you are trying to do.

Hello,
I am a newbie in linux and in servers in general and I am installing for the
first time DSpace 7.3 in a server (ubuntu 22.04), I had never done it and I had
a lot of question but I somewhat did it right.

my problem is that if is posible to migrate data from an old server (DSpace
4.x) to a new one (DSpace 7.3) without the need to do an update/upgrade?

and if so, how?

again I apologize for the obvious question, but reading the documentation on
how to migrate I feel somewhat overwhelmed with so little knowledge I have.

Please advise, Thank you.
