Thanks Tim. I did try running OpenJDK 8 but the handle server wouldn't run. I did look on the listserve and some people mentioned you had to run OpenJDK 1.7 which isn't available for windows. I guess we will need to rush to get to DSpace 7.

Hi Jake, I would not recommend running DSpace 6.x on anything above JDK 8. This is because the JDK itself underwent significant changes between JDK v8 and JDK v11. It has also never been tested on JDK v11 or above...while some features may work, we cannot guarantee everything will. (That said, if you want to try it out and make sure everything works for you, you can make your own decision. It's just not been tested by the DSpace Committers.) DSpace 7 does support JDK v11 and JDK v17 but updating the codebase to fully support later versions of JDK was non-trivial (it involved changing thousands of lines of code<https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/pull/2654>). There are free versions of JDK 8 available from OpenJDK, if Oracle is attempting to charge you money. Oracle JDK and OpenJDK are essentially identical (see https://www.baeldung.com/oracle-jdk-vs-openjdk)... and many DSpace sites use OpenJDK as it is freely available. Does anyone know if Java 17 works (cause it's free to use) with DSpace 6, the handle server, etc?
