Please be aware that this is a community of volunteers. Most of us have our own jobs that keep us busy already. The mailing list lets us ask questions if we’re stuck, and answer questions if we know the answer. But if we don’t know the answer there’s no obligation for us to try anyway. (This includes you: you’re part of the community too, but you’re not obligated to help other people if you don’t know the answer to their question!)
Sometimes I’ve asked a question and got no answer – so I just assumed that either what I was asking for wasn’t possible, or no-one here had any experience with that area. Other times I’ve needed more support than it would be fair to ask from the mailing list, so my institution has paid a contractor to help. And other times the list has given me exactly the information I needed, which I’m extremely grateful for!
