It's not clear which version of DSpace you are using.  But, assuming you 
are using DSpace 7.x, you should be able follow the "Defining the Indexes" 
instructions in the documentation here:

https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/Configuration+Reference#ConfigurationReference-DefiningtheIndexes

It's not just modifying the configuration.  As detailed there you also will 
need to run the Discovery Maintenance Script to reindex your content 
(./dspace index-discovery -b).
