These "mail.server" settings (and similar) are also mentioned in the Backend Installation guide in step 6: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/Installing+DSpace#InstallingDSpace-BackendInstallation If, after configuring your mail server, you are still encountering errors, you should follow the Troubleshooting guide to gather details about the underlying error message: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSPACE/Troubleshoot+an+error#Troubleshootanerror-DSpace7.x(orabove) It's very important to look for underlying error messages. They are extremely useful in debugging the issue you are seeing. Without them, others can only guess as to what might be the problem.
