Hi, That installation guide *is the best place to start* if you are looking to install DSpace 8. There are a lot of optional tasks listed, as the goal of that guide it to provide you with all your options. My recommendation would be to start simple and install DSpace 8 on a development or test machine first. Then you can replicate that process in production.
If you have specific questions or problems you run into with the installation, you can ask them on this Tech Support mailing list.
