[…] it is sufficient as long as you have no restrictions on the bitstreams.If you have restrictions, it does not show the thumbnail, but still allows an allowed user to "click" the empty space where the thumbnail would be - you see the darkened area of the viewer and a frozen loading indicator. This also happens when having a list of bitstreams with a restricted one somewhere in the list - it dies at that position.
