We encountered a similar issue with Gmail addresses not receiving DSpace
email.

In our case, the issue was that Google (and also Yahoo) have started
requiring DKIM and SPF verification for the domain sending the email.

See https://support.google.com/a/answer/81126 for Google's "Email sender
guidelines" to personal GMail accounts.

I don't know much about the actual details of getting these configured, but
I hope this helps.
