HI,
Is anyone providing an single search both their library catalogue and their
DSpace repository?
I am looking at options to provide a single search across items in both.
My options seem to be the following;
1. Directly convert dspace metadata to MARC21
A tool that "exports MARC records from DSpace" is mentioned on the message
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=8240222

Here"s yet another option. Gabriela Mircea wrote a tool that exports MARC
records from DSpace, and was kind enough to give me the code. I was going
to release that and the MARC->DSpace tool that I wrote as a "MARC" utility
for DSpace. They don"t use exactly the same crosswalk, but it"s pretty
close. Interested?

I'd like to try this but I can't the tool - it doesn't seem to have been
published by Dave or Gabriela
Does anyone have a copy - or know where I can get one?
2. Harvest OAI-PMH from DSpace repository to convert into MARC21
Get the data with either
a) using http::OAI::Harvester Perl module on CPAN
http://search.cpan.org/~TIMBRODY/HTTP-OAI-3.16/lib/HTTP/OAI/Harvester.pm
b) using net::OAI::Harvester Perl module on CPAN
- http://search.cpan.org/dist/OAI-Harvester/
though the author of net::OAI::Harvester seems to recommend
http::OAI::Harvester
-
http://www.openarchives.org/pipermail/oai-implementers/2005-February/001441.html
...then use the MARC perl module to create records.
What do you do? What do you recommend?
Thanks,
Stephen
PS I hope I'm not being inflamatory by using the term federated search - I'm
really talking about harvesting metadata.
