The only overwritten file I can see is 
src/org/dspace/core/Constants.java. I haven't looked closely at the 
add-on mechanism recently, but it would be better if mods to existing 
files could be avoided. Could someone from the RepositóriUM team comment?

That's unfortunately the way of the world with add-ons, and will only be 
solved when/if the code gets moved into the DSpace trunk.

If you do install this add-on (or any other), I'd recommend emailing the 
author to let them know. The more people using an add-on, the stronger 
the case for moving it into the DSpace trunk (if that's what the add-on 
author wants). It might also give the author the warm fuzzies, so 
everybody wins.

I don't know for sure, but it looks like it discards hits from spiders, 
and has a tool for keeping the list of spider IPs up to date.
