One point to add: The reason DSpace ships with size-based rolling is
that there was a problem with date-based. If two separate JVMs are
writing to the same log (e.g. the Handle Server and the webapp),
occasionally both JVMs would roll the same log file resulting in data
loss. With size-based rolling, you still get the two rolls but you
just get one very small log file as opposed to data loss.

This problem may have been fixed in log4j since then, but worth checking.
