I find myself having to explain that, absent explicit sorting, an RDBMS returns records in whatever order best implements its notions of efficiency without regard to lexical order or even consistency. People want to impose a particular order on the bitstreams in an item. Is anyone working on such a thing?
One contributor would seem to want bitstreams ordered alpha by description (although I am receiving the request secondhand and am not certain that this is what is wanted). Another has a notion of a "primary" bitstream and wants a way to make that bitstream come first. Thoughts? In one case I would argue that the "item" is really a collection, but others are not so easy. -- Mark H.
