Dear all, FYI, during Spring 2007 Malmo University have developed a new stand-alone web application for extraction of data from DSpace, which basically presents the users with hits from DSpace database directly in their favourite Office [*] softwares.
If you are interested, we would be happy if you wanted to take a look and feel welcomed to provide input or comments to it. Would it be useful for your users, etc? This web application, called EXTRAMUEP, answers to needs from our university to get data from our DSpace database (by a single click) in order to create: - print-on-demand bibliographies opening directly in Word [*] for printer/bookbinder - print-on-demand spreadsheets for Excel [*], based on year (date.issued) and faculty (community id). Functionality, layout, groupings, sorting etc are styled for our specific needs and data model at Malmo University, but will be possible to adapt also by others. Take a look at http://extramuep.mah.se. As some faculties are not depositing that much (yet) I would suggest to select e.g. Faculty of Odontology and 2006 to get an overview of how it looks (to avoid ending up with an empty file). EXTRAMUEP is PHP-based and when queried it calls DSpace database and returns DSpace data in Rich Text Format and HTML 4.0 files, which opens in the user's application associated with .doc and .xls-files. During fall we plan to package and document this little software for usage and further development by the community, if anyone is interested in it. We will also participate in the DSpace User Group Meeting in Rome this October, with a poster presentation of EXTRAMUEP "DSpace Data Extraction Service for 'Office' Users" with more indepth info. Cheers Jessica [*] Tested and working in Microsoft Office, Star Office and Open Office. ________________________________________________ Jessica Lindholm Malmö högskola Bibliotek och IT Orkanenbiblioteket 205 06 Malmö Malmö University Library and IT Service Orkanen Library 205 06 Malmö Sweden [EMAIL PROTECTED] +46 (0)40 665 71 39 http://www.mah.se/bit http://homeweb.mah.se/~bijeli/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc.
