Hi Christos:

I have a rough version of the multilingualism patch for 1.4.2 that I
could send to you to try out; if it works for you then I could attach
it to the patch queue. The multilingualism support has been merged
into the 1.5 branch of DSpace, but that release is still in the
process of stabilizing. Claudia's addition to the README that formed
part of the 1.4.1 patch does a good job of explaining what the patch
changes. The i18n section of the DSpace wiki
(http://wiki.dspace.org/index.php/I18nSupport) may also be helpful for
you.

Note that there are still a number of significant problems that will
not be resolved by this patch, such as no support for multilingual
community / collection names (causes problems for sorting community
and collection names), no support for multilingual community /
collection descriptions, etc. Past discussions have suggested that the
developers want to refactor the database schema to store all text in a
multilingual properties table. However, thus far I haven't seen
anything in 1.5 that moves towards that direction.
