Hi,

We use DSpace among other things for "Dissertations Online". Sometimes
the dissertation is in the repository, but the publisher disallows the
distribution of the full text of the dissertation or part of the
dissertation. It must be under embargo.

We have implemented a solution for this by using the resource policy
mechanism. You can set an embargo on a single bitstream, and when the
embargo ends, the bitstream is automagically available for download.

I want to share the code, but we still use Dspace 1.3.2 without CVS/SVN
support, so making a patch is nearly impossible. That is way I made a
wiki discribing the changes, including some screenshots and a script to
set embargoes in batch.

See it at: http://wiki.dspace.org/index.php/Embargo_on_Bitstream

I also looked at the source for Dspace 1.4.2 and I think it is viable to
implement this change on that version, but until we upgrade to Dspace
1.4.2 ourselves, it is left as an exercise for the reader ;-)
