Hi MacKenzie, Thanks for your quick response, I felt that both systems were duplicating many features and Dataverse's roadmap apparently was going to cover all Dspace. However Gary Kink in his paper talk about possible interoperability between both systems. I do not know why Harvard didn't opt to develop a Dspace module or extend the core, maybe because the long term goals of both systems are different. I will get in touch with Mark Diggory as soon as I get my dataverse working. :-)
